Katavi National Park — Tanzania Safaris

Established in 1974, Katavi National Park is located in the Katavi Region of southwestern Tanzania. It lies to the north of the ‘Rukwa Rift’, which is an extension of the Western Rift Valley. Covering approximately 4,471km², Katavi ranks as the third-largest national park in Tanzania. The park offers thrilling game drives that enable visitors to explore its remote wilderness. Katavi is renowned for its large populations of elephants, buffalo, and hippos, as well as lions and leopards. Found in the southwestern part of Tanzania, the park showcases a range of ecosystems. The savannahs and wetlands provide opportunities to observe unique wildlife behaviours.

Best time to Visit Katavi National Park

The optimal times for game drives are during the morning and late afternoon, with the period from June to October being the best for a visit, as the dry season brings animals closer to water sources. Your knowledgeable guide will help you understand the complexities of the bush and introduce you to both its smaller creatures and its larger animal and birdlife. A perfect destination for those who appreciate the solitude of the stunning bush, Katavi remains untouched and infrequently visited.
